# Petty Cash

> Petty cash funds, funding from the bank, and associated expenses

Petty cash controls cash funds for minor expenses, their replenishment from banks, and the expenses paid with them.

## Create a fund

**1. Go to Petty Cash → New fund**

**2. Enter the name, opening balance, and a note**

**3. Select the cash account in the chart of accounts**

**4. Save**

## Fund movements

The fund detail shows all movements (date, type, document, debit, credit, balance, and journal entry). From there:

| Action | Description |
| - | - |
| **Fund from bank** | Replenishes the fund. Optionally generates the withdrawal at the source bank and the journal entry. Otherwise it only adjusts the cash balance. |
| **Associate expense** | Pays a purchase pending payment with petty cash, with date, amount, reference, and notes. |
| **Link journal entry** | Associates a movement with an existing journal entry. |
| **Recalculate balances** | Recalculates the balance before and after each movement in the period, in chronological order. Use it after deleting or reversing movements. |

## Customer payments into petty cash

A cash payment for a sale can go directly into a petty cash fund: when you record it, choose the fund in **Destination of funds** (see [Accounts receivable](https://docs.filexpress.app/en/docs/finanzas/cuentas-cobrar.md#record-collections)). The payment appears as an income movement in the fund and increases its balance; if the payment is reversed, an adjustment that deducts it is recorded.

## Accounting

Purchases paid from petty cash and payments that go into it are posted against the cash account when you [process documents](https://docs.filexpress.app/en/docs/contabilidad/procesar-documentos.md).
